From the East
Greetings Brethren,
Prior to opening our July Stated meeting, we enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Don Moyer, with the assistance of our Stewarts, a fine meal indeed. At the end of our meal, it was my pleasure to present Miss Hannah Brownell with a check as the recipient of the Nick Matthew’s Memorial Scholarship. Miss Brownell carried a 4.4 GPA and has been accepted to Virginia Commonwealth University in the Arts School. Hannah is the daughter of Bro. Brian & Chamie Riley. Her application resume was impeccable and we wish her much success in her upcoming university experience.
The business meeting opened at 7:30 in the usual fashion. Our visitors were introduced and received a warm welcome. One of our visitors is from Delaware and has visited our Lodge on several occasions. It was good to look from the East and see our sidelines occupied to near capacity. The business of the Secretary was conducted in the usual manner and a Petition for the 2nd reading was read and balloted on and was found favorable to elect another young man to receive the Degrees in Masonry. I am excited with the number of new members so far during this term and feel strongly that the future of Yorktown Lodge will be in good hands.
The Treasurer offered his report on our financial situation. Committee reports were given among which the Youth, Building and Grounds, Golf Tournament and Scholarship formation were given. The Golf Tournament which funds our Masonic Scholarship and Building Funds has been a huge success and it appears this year will be no different. The Golf Committee consulted on the status of the scholarship amount and number of scholarships awarded and it is felt that due to the amount of money we are taking in, they felt more scholarships could be awarded at a higher value in the future. It is therefore my order that a new Scholarship Committee be formed to meet and consult in this endeavor and report back in a timely manner.
Yorktown Masonic Lodge had three Brothers who have obtained 25 years of Masonic service. Worshipful Brother David Murray assumed the East and received Worshipful Brother John Murray, Worshipful Brother Robert Murray and Brother C.D. Hudson and presented them with their 25 Year Masonic Service Awards. Worshipful Brother David commented to me how special it was to confer these awards on his two brothers as well as Brother Hudson.
We are going to have a busy August as we will have an initiation in the very near future; date to follow. We will have a called communication for recitation and balloting in the Entered Apprentice degree, with work and instruction in the Fellowcraft’s Degree on Monday, August 9th at 7:00 pm. Please remember to support our District Lodges with a visit.

Fraternally yours,
Stephen Swicegood,
Worshipful Master
